The summertime is here with warm temperatures, bright sunshine and seasonal sounds aplenty. But here on campus, it has been a little quiet. Students finished out their spring semesters from home and we haven’t seen most but through a computer screen since before Spring Break. Needless to say, we have missed them. Our hearts especially go out to all of our student athletes who couldn’t finish, or even begin, their final season which is often recognized as the capstone of their athletic careers and to those who finished their senior years without the traditions of spring commencement and the student awards ceremony.

Some of our spring traditions were modified, postponed or even cancelled. As it greatly saddened us not to be able to send off our students the way we wished, there is one tradition that will never be moved: the opportunity to welcome the new graduates to the ranks of alumni.

And, while we stand in unity with all of our alumni no matter the graduation year, this newest group, the Class of 2020, is the next to pick up the mantle of great achievement, innovation and invention that truly will make a positive and lasting mark on the world. I, for one, can’t wait to see what shape it takes.
