I hope all of you are enjoying warm weather, good health and the company of friends and family this summer. Here at Indiana Tech, we’ve already begun our 2021-22 academic year, with classes in our College of Professional Studies having begun in late July. Main campus is also back in action, in person! Our traditional undergraduates moved into their dorms during the week of Aug. 16, and classes began Aug. 23. We continue to be vigilant in taking steps to protect our community from COVID-19, while also looking forward to a return to more in-person events on and around campus this fall.

Our best day at Indiana Tech each year is commencement day, which also happens to be the topic of my favorite story in this issue of Indiana Tech Magazine. We were able to return to an in-person commencement this past May, honoring both 2020 and 2021 graduates in the process. I hope you’ll take time to read all about it and check out the photos and video from this special day.

For an up-close-and-personal look at the impact that an Indiana Tech education can have on our graduates, take the time to meet Trisha Bertram, a working mom and proud 2021 Warrior alum. Trisha’s story is an inspiring reminder of why everyone in our Tech community has such a strong commitment to our students and our mission.

The ability to once again gather in person also allowed us to properly celebrate the start of a major new project here on campus: the renovation and expansion of the Zollner Engineering Center. It was wonderful to welcome alumni, members of our board of trustees and friends from around our community to the groundbreaking event for this transformational project. When complete, the Zollner Center will provide an innovative new home for our wide array of growing STEM programs here at the university. Learn more about this compelling initiative in the College of Engineering Roundup.

Speaking of gathering in person, difficult as it may be to believe, Homecoming and Family Weekend 2021 is just a few short weeks away, taking place Sept. 27 through Oct. 2. I hope each of you will join us here in Fort Wayne as we reconnect with old friends and make new friends while celebrating our shared connection to Indiana Tech. This year’s homecoming weekend will feature social events for alumni, family members and current students; our Athletics Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony; and much more.

Be sure also to mark your calendars for the annual TWIST golf tournament, on Sunday, Sept. 19, benefitting Indiana Tech athletics and student scholarships. Learn more about this and other upcoming events in our Save the Date section.

I look forward to seeing you on campus soon!

Warm regards,

Karl W. Einolf
